Three players you could see in a Spireite shirt next season
The new Chesterfield FC home shirt recently unveiled by Chesterfield FC. |
As the National league prepares for the new season so are it’s competitors.
Non league teams are hard at work adding players to their squad’s in preparation for the new season.
However, the Spireites are yet to do so during these financially difficult times and the uncertain future of the board.
It goes without saying that the Spireites need reinforcements after finishing in 19th place despite setting a goal of promotion back to the football league.
Pemberton has already took charge of renewal of contracts although nothing has been confirmed.
A number of players will be let go and the squad will need extra bodies to challenge for promotion as the National league is already equipped with big spenders, Pemeberton will need to find bargains and free signings to operate on a small budget whilst also putting together a good footballing side ready to compete with the promotion chasers.
Here’s three realistic signings that could boost Chesterfield’s squad ready for the 2020/21 season.
Ellis Myles- Right back
Myles is a 27 year old defender currently at Brackley town of the National league north.
Brackley conceded the least amount of goals during the 19/20 season and finished in third place.
Myles has been with Brackley since 2016 and has played 34 games during both the 18/19 season and 19/20 season showing his consistency and value to the squad.
Myles also won the FA trophy in 2018 and has earned himself a place amongst the fans favourites.
Myles could fix the Spireites issues in defence and in the right back position more specifically, bringing defensive stability and a robust track record.
Fraser Kerr- Centre back
Fraser Kerr is a 27 year old centre back who played 23 national league games for Hartlepool last season.
Kerr helped Hartlepool challenge for a play off spot in the 19/20 season but didn’t feature that regularly leading to his release at the end of the season.
Kerr also featured 35 times for Gateshead during the 18/19 season which saw Gateshead finish just two places outside of the playoffs.
This shows that Kerr has consistently competed at the right end of the table, something Chesterfield has failed to do.
At just 27 and available on a free, Kerr is about to enter a centre backs ‘prime’ which is exactly what Chesterfield need after conceding 65 goals last season (third most in the league).
Declan Weeks- Central midfielder
The 24 year old central midfielder has recently been released by Kidderminster Harriers whom John Pemberton managed earlier on in the season.
Weeks is capable of scoring from range and finding a pass in tight spaces.
Weeks struggled with injuries last season but when fit scored two long range efforts and was a vital part of a strong Kidderminster side.
During the 18/19 season, Weeks played 31 times, scoring on four occasions.
He was rewarded with a new one year contract at the end of the season after making 73 appearances in the previous two campaigns, getting 18 assists in the process.
Also available on a free, Weeks could add midfield creativity as well as defensive cover from midfield.
All good teams need goals from midfield, a lot like Weston has done during the 19/20 season.
However, with another creative force next to him Chesterfield would be stronger than ever.
Who do you think would improve this Chesterfield side and push them up the table?
