REPORT: SPIREITES SLIP TO ANOTHER DEFEAT

Chesterfield faced Bromley this weekend at the Proact Stadium in desperate need of three points. The visitors are a well organised side, competing at the top end of the table.

Fifteen minutes into the game and the Spireites were the more dominant side but hadn’t created any real chances until Boden and Fondop battled in the box and Boden flicked the ball towards the keeper, Fondop just caught the ball before Huddart and he hit the roof of the net to put the blues one nil up.

On the thirty minute mark Gevaro picked out Boden from the left but Boden’s header was to tame.

Ten minutes until the break and Bromley created their best chance with a cross into the box but Cheek headed just wide.

Thirty eight minutes gone and Maguire curled a free kick into the box which was met by Evans but his header was easy for the keeper to save.

Chesterfield were really playing with confidence especially in the midfield between Weston and Maguire, Gevaro on the left with Sheridan, and Boden and Fondop’s hold up play. This continued as Sheridan’s cross wasn’t met by anyone in the box until Tootle blazed a shot over the bar from the edge of the box.

The two teams went into the break with a Mike Fondop goal separating them and Chesterfield demonstrating a much better possession based game.

Bromley came out the better side in the second half and their pressure was starting to pay off as in fifty fifth minute Cheek was given space to hit an effort over the bar with no challenge on him.

Just seconds later Chesterfield went up the other end with Tootle flying through the Bromley defence, the ball eventually finding Maguire who dragged an effort just wide of the post.

Seventy five minutes of hard work was chucked down the drain as a Coulson cross was met by Williamson in the box and his header hit the back of the net making it 1-1 with fifteen minutes to go.

Minutes later Gevaro dashed down the left wing, eventually being tripped in the box but nothing was given despite many claiming for a penalty.

In the eighty second minute another cross from the left coursed danger and Evans flicked the ball into his own net.

The game finished 1-2 to the visiting Bromley with boos echoing round the ground. The second half didn’t match the good performances of the first half. Bromley continue to battle at the top whilst Chesterfield look down the table in fear.
