REPORT: SPIREITES SCRAPE A DRAW AS EVATT RETURNS TO THE PROACT
Chesterfield played hosts to Barrow this weekend as the Spireites looked to get their first victory of the campaign. The Barrow side had plenty of familiar faces including Brad Barry, Byron Harrison, Sam Hird and of course Ian Evatt.
Barrow put on the early pressure through the right hand side inside five minutes when a pass across goal found a Barrow striker but he could only hit the post and the rebound was saved well by Jalal.
Just minutes later Chesterfield attacked the right too as a cross field pass found Mandeville but he could only poke his effort wide.
Fifteen minutes in a back pass was read well by Quigley and he found himself in a one on one situation with Jalal but he could only hit the side netting.
On the 18 minute mark Bradley Barry picked up the ball in shooting range and struck the top right corner from long distance. The home crowd sat back stunned as the former Spireite came back to haunt his former side.
With twenty four minutes on the clock, a low corner was met by Quigley and he volleyed home, putting the bluebirds two up.
Ten minutes before the break Barrow had another one on one opportunity without a defender in sight but this time Jalal saves well and tips the shot onto the bar and the ball was eventually cleared.
Just minutes before half-time Dyson cut-in from the right and curled an effort towards goal but once again Jalal came to the rescue and tipped the ball past the post.
After we hit the forty fifth minute the referee added an extra three minutes. Chesterfield took advantage of the extra time and McGlashan won the Spireites a penalty. Boden stepped up and scored with calmness, giving Chesterfield a lifeline.
HT-1-2
Ten minutes into the second half Mandeville delivered a very inviting cross for Fondop but he could only head straight at the keeper.
Yarney attacked down the right with just fifteen left and crossed in an incredible delivery for Fondop once again but he could only head wide.
With just ten minutes left the Spireites were desperate for an equaliser and up stepped new man Fondop after heading home a very good cross from Buchanan.
Eventually Chesterfield rescued a point after being two behind and look forward to travelling to Stockport on Monday.
John Sheridan admitted he got today’s lineup wrong but insists he wants the blame to be put on him not the players as he knows what the fans expect.
