CUSACK’S GROUND REVIEW
GATESHEAD FC
The Gateshead International Stadium is an 11,800 all seater venue situated to the east of Gateshead and near the river Tyne. The ground is primarily an athletics stadium. Gateshead fc have played here since the 71/72 season.
The Tyne & Wear Main Stand on the West side is a large covered all seater stand seating 3,227 but is fairly steep. It has windshields to each side and although some distance from the pitch , due to the running track, there is a good view. Disabled access to the terrace in the main stand is via the lift in the main reception.A two storey building to one side houses a large cafe/bar area.
Opposite the main stand is the East Stand, covered and of 4,044 seating capacity. At each end, behind the goals are banks of seating open to the elements that are not normally used for football matches.
Large away followings are housed in the East Stand but smaller ones use a section of the Tyne & Wear stand.
The Press facilities are good and staff welcoming.
A typical range of matchday food is on offer from locations on the Tyne & Wear (main) stand and back of the East (away) stand. Alcohol is served from the bar in the main reception area and a further area in the main stand. There is no bar in the away area but drinks can be purchased from the main reception bar before entering through the turnstiles. If arriving before the turnstiles open, there is access to the main reception area and cafe.
Very reasonable prices for food and drink.
Eg.Pasty/ pie £2.40
Overall 8/10
