John Sheridan pre Barnet

On Tuesday, Chesterfield will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Harrogate. The defeat sees Sheridan suffer a loss for the first time in the National League, with his team missing the opportunity to go four points clear of the relegation zone.

“I thought we started the game slowly,” said the former League 2 champion.

“I don’t think we got going at all.

“Coming off the back of the result at Fylde, I’m expecting us to go into the game with a higher tempo.

Harrogate did to us what we’ve been possibly doing. When we score first we have the desire and endeavour to defend.”

Sheridan confirms that returning youngsters Laurence Maguire and Charlie Carter both came through the game with no injury concerns, but says Will Evans is to be assessed ahead of the trip to Barnet.

With the Spireites currently sat on 36 points, estimates from previous seasons suggest that the Blues will need to pick up 16 points from 13 games to all but confirm National League survival.

“I think that 50-52 point mark is always a marker and it’s never really too different.

“You can look at how many points we need, but I’m just looking at three points tomorrow.”

As for Barnet on Tuesday, Sheridan says it will be a tough, but winnable game. Barnet currently sit one place above Chesterfield in 18th, but do have four games in hand over the Derbyshire club.

“You can have your games in hand, but you’ve got to go and win them – sometimes people prefer to have points on the board.

“It’s a tough game, but we’ve got to go and make the most of it.”

The Spireites will be looking to make it four wins out of six in the league under Sheridan, with the Blues hoping to take full advantage of one of their games in hand.
