John Pemberton pre Ebbsfleet
Ahead
of Saturday’s home game against Ebbsfleet United, caretaker boss John Pemberton
has been speaking to Spire Media. Pemberton has managed two draws from two
games so far for the Spireites and has brought surprises with his team
selections, with youngsters Jamie Sharman and Luke Rawson featuring in both
games.
“I
think we’ve played some decent football in patches. We’ve dominated halves of
games.
“In
terms of character, we’ve shown a lot of character to come from behind three
times in two games.
“Quite
pleasing, but we want to win football matches.”
Loan
forward Alex Kiwomya has been the subject of niggling injuries in the past few
weeks and Pemberton says he doubtful for Saturday.
“We
have to be careful with him.
“I
wasn’t sure whether we could start him or not and it’s probably a good job we
didn’t.”
JP
has also confirmed that Tom Denton has returned to training following a spell
out through injury.
Lee
Shaw picked up his first league goal for Chesterfield
on Saturday at Solihull Moors, with Pemberton expressing his delight.
“He’s
a coach’s dream. He plays wherever you want him to play; he never kicks up a
fuss.
“I
could play him in goals and he’d get on with it.
“In
the position we’re in, he’s an absolute credit to the football club.”
Saturday
also saw academy graduate Jamie Sharman make his first league start for the
Spireites and Pemberton is pleased with the youngsters’ performance.
“People
will target him because he’s a young player, but he’s got a strong character
and I thought he did well.
“My
only concern was that he got booked early doors and I needed to change the
shape of the team.
“Taking
him and Alfie [Beestin] off wasn’t because they were playing poorly; I just
needed to change the shape of the team.”
JP
says he doesn’t plan on making too many changes, because of the need for
continuity.
As
for Saturday’s game at home to Ebbsfleet, Pemberton expects another tough game.
“They’re
a good side.
“They’ve
got players who have played in the Football League, they’re on the back of a
good run so they’ll be full of confidence.
“It’s
up to us to make sure that run doesn’t continue.”
