MARTIN ALLEN POST HALIFAX

After a third successive draw against Halifax, Martin Allen spoke to Spire Media about his teams’ performance.

“The game was played in difficult conditions, but we acquitted ourselves very well with passion, fight and spirit.

“As I’m sure all our supporters will realise, we need to be a hard to beat team at the minute, difficult to play against and at the moment we certainly are.

“Yes we need to improve our quality, which is why Kyel Reid played today.

“It will come with time.”

The game was played in front of BT Sport cameras at The Shay, in a game that saw Tom Denton score for the first time as a Spireite, with a goal that cancelled out Matty Kosylo’s second half strike.

The travelling 405 supporters feared the worst as they saw their team go a goal down, but Martin Allen’s men showed fight to equalise, as they extend their unbeaten run to 3 games.

“They [the players] do apply themselves. They’re not lazy.

“I will help them and they will get better.”

Allen was also full of praise for target man striker Tom Denton, who headed in his first goal for the club.

“He’ll score lots of goals, as will Shaw.

“I think people seem to forget that it’s only eight weeks ago that one of them was packing eggs and one of them was doing plastering every day.

“To jump up to full time football at a big club like Chesterfield is a big step up.

Next up for Chesterfield is an away trip to Fylde, as they do battle for the second time this season in the fourth round of qualifying for the FA Cup.
