Martin Allen: "We are all looking forward to tomorrow's game" Pre Leyton Orient
Ahead of the Spireites home game
against Leyton Orient, manager Martin Allen has been speaking to Spire Media. Chesterfield will go into
this fixture having lost four on the bounce and Allen’s men will be keen to
kick-start their season.
“They’re a little bit quiet.
Obviously they’re not happy. They’ve worked very, very hard,” said the
Spireites boss.
“The players have given us
everything, but we’re disappointed with the results.
“However, we are all looking
forward to tomorrows’ home game against Leyton Orient.”
Among the possible areas to blame
for our recent dip in form, Allen believes his men have lacked creativity when
going forward. In the last few games Chesterfield
have been without attacking midfielder Charlie Carter (injured) and wide man
Jerome Binnom-Williams, who saw red during Towns 3-2 defeat at Barrow.
“We’ve given away some silly
goals. Some of the goals we’ve given away have been very unlike everything
we’ve done in pre season.
“We haven’t been totally outplayed,
or dominated.
“We didn’t play well in our last
home game, there’s certainly no doubt about that.”
Optimists might say that a poor
run of form couldn’t have come at a better time for the Spireites, with there
still being plenty of time for Martin Allen and his staff to turn things
around. However, the gaffer doesn’t see it the same way.
“I hate losing any game. I really
can’t stand it.
“I love winning. I love that
moment when the referee blows that whistle when your team’s won. I thrive on
that.
“At the moment I have to grit my
teeth, shake people’s hands, do the media and then I get in my car and bang my
head against the window.”
In the past week, Chesterfield completed the loan signing of Hull City
goalkeeper Callum Burton, following the news of Shwan Jalal’s injury. Despite
the results, Allen is pleased with the new acquisition.
“He’s a good goalkeeper. Top
player. He’ll have a big future ahead of him.”
Left sided player Jerome
Binnom-Williams has now completed his three game suspension and is now eligible
for selection, with Allen saying that the team has missed having him in the
group.
“I think you’ll see a sharper,
fitter, trimmer Jerome.
“I’m looking forward to seeing
him play tomorrow.”
In other transfer news, George
Smith has moved out on loan to National League rivals Dover , with Allen saying the fullback needs
more game time.
Martin Allen told Spire Media
that attacking youngster Charlie Carter is now off crutches, as he continues
his road to recovery.
“He’s not back jogging yet as he
needs to strengthen his ankle. We’re probably about a month away from seeing
Charlie.”
As for Saturday’s opponents,
Martin Allen says we can expect another tough game from a side that suffered a
similar fate to the Spireites. Orient have suffered back to back relegations
from League One to the National League and are currently competing in their
second season in non league.
“They’ve completely rebuilt.
“They struggled last year in
their first season in this league. They’ve kept some very good senior players
who have done very well for them so far. They have some very good young
players, full of energy and running.
“They’re very well organised with
Justin Edinburgh, who is a very good manager. As always, this will be a tough
game for us to play.”
