Martin Allen pre Aldershot Town
Ahead of Chesterfield ’s
first home game of the season against Aldershot Town ,
Spireites boss Martin Allen has been speaking to Spire Media. Saturday saw Town
get off to a winning start in the National League, with Zavon Hines’ converted
penalty giving us a 1-0 win in a tough challenge against Ebbsfleet. Despite the
victory, Allen says he was not happy with the performance.
“Yes I was delighted with the
three points, not so much with the performance,” said the Blues boss.
The former West Ham midfielder
says while he is excited about his first league match at the Proact, he remains
focussed on getting the result.
“The game is not about me. It’s
about the players and the supporters getting behind the players, as well as the
players putting in a good performance to make these fans happy.”
Allen also expressed his delight
at the number of Town fans that made the long journey down to Ebsfleet on
Saturday.
“I just kept seeing more and more
people coming in from the corner.
“I could not believe how many
people were behind that goal. It was an unbelievable feeling and even now it
puts a lump in my throat.”
With games coming thick and fast
early in the season, Martin told Spire Media of how he and his coaching staff
would prepare players mentally for every game as they come, with calmness being
key.
“Make calm decisions, within my
office without anyone else influencing what we do, so we are making sure we get
things right.
“Remind them with video footage
of some of the good parts that they’ve been doing in the last few weeks. Some
managers get videos on and just criticise them and point the finger. I try and
do it the other way and play videos, saying ‘this was good’.”
As for Tuesday’s opposition,
Allen says we can expect good football from a team managed by a good friend of
his, Gary Waddock.
“They’re a very entertaining,
young team. He [Waddock] is a very good manager, getting to the playoffs two
years on the spin.
“For Gary and everyone there, I
hope they have a good season, but not too good, as they will be there or
thereabouts come the end of the season.”
A win for Martin Allen’s men
would leave them with a perfect record after two games, with the Spireites
title challenge off to a flyer.
