MARTIN ALLEN: WE’RE UP AGAINST ONE OF THE BEST TEAMS IN THE DIVISION
Ahead of the Spireites opening
game of the season, Martin Allen has been speaking to Spire Media.
“I haven’t set any goals,” said
the Chesterfield
manager. “I explained to them on the first day of pre season where I expected
them to finish in the league.
“The main goal has always been to
get as many points as possible, as quick as we can.”
Allen spoke of how it is
important to raise spirits in a squad that has been through a difficult period
and how he has done that.
“When you’re facing tough times
there isn’t anything better than to have someone who smiles, or someone that
sometimes is quite funny. Someone that gives good leadership and treating
everybody well is also important.”
The Spireites boss told Spire
Media that the National League is no different to what Town fans have already
experienced with league football.
“I don’t know what everybody’s up
on their high horse about, it’s no different.”
As for Saturday’s opponents
Ebbsfleet United, Allen was quick to praise them and their recent successes.
“They got to the playoffs last
season and a promotion the year before. Their manager is a superb manager. He’s
young and very well organised.
“He’s picked up some very good
players; two of those players have played for me.
“Let’s not kid ourselves, we’re
up against one of the best teams in the division.”
