LEE SHAW: "It’s a lot different to waking up and packing boxes in the morning”

This week Spire Media were at the Chesterfield training ground, where we got a chance to catch up with Martin Allen’s latest signing, 24 year old striker Lee Shaw. Shaw joined the Spireites from Grantham Town, having acquired a red hot goal record in the past two seasons, bagging 50 times for the Gingerbreads.

“I’m really enjoying myself,” Shaw told Spire Media. “Obviously it’s a lot different to waking up and packing boxes in a morning. But this is what a want to do and this is what I love doing, so I’m really enjoying it.”

Town’s newest arrival says he has Martin Allen’s style of football to thank for his decision to join Chesterfield.

“I’ve seen games where Martin’s been in charge at Barnet and it’s his attacking football that’s made me come to play for him.”

As well as being a prolific goal scorer for Grantham in the last few years, Shaw has also been working in a packaging company. Now he’s turned professional with Chesterfield, the 24 year old can’t wait to get going.

“I’m pacey, I love to run at a man and I love to score goals. I’ll do what’s needed to get this football club back where it needs to be.”

With the number 9 shirt being left vacant when the squad numbers were announced, it is very much expected that this number will be taken by Shaw. The new striker will hope to build a formidable partnership with Gozie Ugwu, with both being proven goal scorers in non league.
