LAURENCE MAGUIRE: “Everyone was outstanding.”

Chesterfield defender Laurence Maguire conveyed his satisfaction with the 5-0 friendly victory over Nuneaton on Saturday, in tough conditions.

“Obviously to come to a place like this isn’t easy. The pitch is dry, it’s a hot summer’s day and to say we had a few young lads in the team I think everyone was outstanding.”

The 21 year old believes that the squad are working very hard, which he hopes will please the Spireite fans.

“The supporters have come in their numbers again for a pre season friendly.

“We’ve given them a good performance and everyone’s worked their socks off, there’s going to be a few tired bodies, but we go again Monday and then Wigan on Wednesday.”

Maguire also told Spire Media of how a 20 minute meeting with Martin Allen filled him with confidence that he will hope to take into the new season.

“He’s been good for me since I’ve come in; hopefully I can push on now and play as many games as possible this season.”

Laurence, younger brother of England international Harry Maguire, says he is eternally grateful to Martin Allen for allowing him to support his brother in Russia.

“It was brilliant.

“I appreciate everything the gaffer did for me to go and support my brother in Russia and I’ll be very thankful of that for the rest of my life.”
