ADRIAN WHITBREAD: "The future is bright"
Following Chesterfield ’s
5-0 friendly victory over Nuneaton on Saturday, assistant manager Adrian
Whitbread was full of praise for a very youthful looking Chesterfield side that fielded the likes of
Brandon Howard and Jamie Sharman.
“The manager is obviously very
delighted with the way the senior players equipped themselves the way that they
did. With the youngsters that have played today, the future is very, very
bright for Chesterfield FC.”
Whitbread also expressed his
desire for a packed Proact on Wednesday night, when the Spireites will take on Wigan for Tommy Lee’s testimonial.
“He’s been a long servant to this
football club,” said the 46 year old. “It’d be great if we could bang in a full
house for him and let the supporters show their appreciation.”
Fitness, application of tactics
and avoiding injuries are the focus points for the coaching staff and Whitbread’s
been impressed by the way the players have responded to a tough pre season.
“From day one the players
returning to the club from last season and those coming in were told that this
was going to be a hard pre season.
On top of this, Town’s assistant
manager told Spire Media of his delight with the willingness to learn shown by
the younger players.
“Sometimes it’s very difficult as
a young player, your first experience with the first team.
“They’ve got to listen, be wide eyed and take on board
what’s been said and look at the senior pros and what they’ve done. But the
younger players have acquitted themselves very well today.”
Whitbread says he is “loving it”
at Chesterfield
and can’t wait for the season to start.
“We’re looking forward to the
start of the season now, only two weeks away.
“A few final bits of preparation
on and off the field and we’ll be ready come August the 4th.”
